The Fendi Spring 2021 prêt-à-porter collection is, as Lizzie McGuire would say, “This is what dreams are made of”. Literally. Some of the inspirations for this collection were photos from a bedroom window and bed linen.

The presentation starts with clothes that have beautiful and interesting prints. They were created with photos taken by Silvia Venturini Fendi from her bedroom window during lockdown. It was followed by outfits in white, cream and light blue with occasional brushes of pink, yellow and orange. Around look 30 appears the first all black outfit, which gives the start to the black/ white, black/red, red/ blue section. The runway show ended with pieces in the beautiful prints from the beginning, and clothing that reminds a comforter.

One of the most beautiful part from this collection is the craftsmanship. The sheer embroidered fabrics are sweet, the leather coats and jackets are stunning, and the prints are wonderful. The accessories helped tie everything together. The shoes consisted of more formal styles, like sock boots and heels, but also casual ones such as slides and slippers. The handbags were mostly Fendi classics, such as the Peekaboo and the Baguette, but reworked.

According to Vogue, the closing outfits, which featured puffy jackets and a quilted dress, are a reference to Karl Lagerfeld. In a quote given by Venturini Fendi to the magazine, she said they reminded her of him, who turns out was a fan of bed lines and had a big collection of them.

Silvia Venturini Fendi has been surprising fashion aficionados with her beautiful work. This collection is no exception. It is the perfect goodbye for the Lagerfeld/ Venturini Fendi era of the brand, while still making us excited with what’s to come.

Kim Jones was recently appointed as the new creative director of Fendi’s womenswear, and will be debuting on the brand next season.
